Festanstellung, Voll- oder Teilzeit · Berlin

Ihre Aufgaben:
For our Research & Publications team, which is based in the MSC's Berlin office (see https://securityconference.org/publikationen/), we are looking for an editor (m/f/d), to support us either full-time or part-time, ideally starting September 1st. As editor, you ensure the quality of different types of MSC publications, accompanying authors from the moment they develop their argument to when they polish their final text; maintain our inhouse style guide and ensure that all publications adhere to it; and contribute to internal writing trainings and workshops. If of interest, and in the case of joining the MSC full-time, you would be welcome to contribute to other publications in the framework of the MSC’s focus areas.

Tasks:
  • Editing (and rewriting, where necessary) MSC publications on a wide range of topics from all MSC focus areas, including defense, global order, human security, sustainability, and technology, with a focus on structural/content editing and copy editing. This includes closely collaborating with and providing feedback to the authors, from the first proposal to the final text and in close coordination with the Research & Publications team
  • Proofreading of research publications and, if needed, written products from other MSC departments
  • Exercising quality control of all MSC publications, including by further developing the MSC’s style guide for publications and ensuring that all publications adhere to its guidelines
  • Contributing to the systematic development of writing skills in the team, including via workshops and the development of writing guidelines
  • Optional: contributing – usually in co-authorship – to the MSC’s publications portfolio in one or several of the MSC’s aforementioned focus areas
Ihr Profil:
  • Outstanding degree in journalism, political science or a related field
  • Several years of professional experience – acquired, for instance, in the fields of journalism, research, or the think tank world – in editing policy-relevant publications, ideally on topics of international security or foreign policy. Proven experience with working with non-native writers is an asset
  • Excellent written and spoken English (at the level of an English native speaker). German skills are an asset
  • Excellent writing skills and experience in publishing texts for different audiences, ranging from policy-relevant to academic texts, background briefings and analyses to opinion pieces
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to structure and break down complex issues for different purposes and audiences
  • Very good knowledge of the international security policy landscape
  • Strong intercultural competence, strong affinity to cooperation and teamwork, experience in publication-related cooperation and a high level of resilience
  • Extreme attention to detail/accuracy and reliability
Wir bieten:
  • Responsibility & Purpose: Challenging, diverse tasks as well as the opportunity to actively shape the transformation of the financial organization in a meaningful nonprofit organization with high international reputation
  • Team Spirit: open, friendly, and quick communication as well as flat hierarchies, along with a young and highly motivated team with a casual culture, where team cohesion is highly valued
  • Modern Workplace Equipment: offices in the heart of Berlin with height-adjustable desks, along with free fruit and a wide selection of drinks
  • Benefits & Appreciation: attractive salary package with bonuses, 30 days of annual vacation, public transportation ticket or travel cost allowance, remote work options, various training opportunities, regular team events, Urban Sports Club membership, and much more.
  • Exciting insights behind the scenes of the Munich Security Conference as well as the opportunity to participate in the Munich Security Conference and other selected events.
Weitere Informationen:
The workplace is located in Berlin, with high flexibility and the possibility of partial work from home. The position is remunerated in line with sector standards. We would like to emphasize that we are open for remote work Europe-wide.

Please send your application, stating your salary expectations, desired number of hours (in case of a preference for working part-time), and earliest possible starting date. Early applications are encouraged. Ideally, we are looking for someone who is able to start on September 1, 2025, but are flexible when it comes to later starting dates.
The application deadline is June 29, 2025.
